Community Service: Optimizing Onion and Corn Cultivation in Majene Regency Community Service Without Limits

The Agrotechnology Study Program, Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University conducted a community service activity on January 10–12, 2024, in Pamboborang Village, Banggae Subdistrict, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi. This activity is a concrete example of the university’s contribution to supporting farmers’ capacity building through the application of agricultural science and technology.

During the event, faculty members from the Department of Crop Science provided training and disseminated cultivation technologies for shallots and hybrid corn to the local community. The topics covered included proper cultivation techniques, selection of high-yielding varieties, land management, balanced fertilization, and pest and disease control.

In addition to theoretical instruction, the event also included the distribution of hybrid corn seeds as a tangible form of support for farmers. It is hoped that this seed assistance will serve as a first step toward improving the productivity and quality of agricultural yields for the community in the region.

Through this community service activity, it is hoped that there will be a transfer of knowledge and technology capable of encouraging the adoption of modern, efficient, and sustainable farming practices. Hasanuddin University remains committed to being present in the community to support the development of an advanced and competitive agricultural sector.
